WATER-SKI FUNDRAISER
(SPONSORED
BY THE CHILDREN’S BRAIN TUMOR FOUNDATION)
On Thursday, June 26th, beginning at noon at the Statue of Liberty, Richie
LaPlaca will head up the Hudson River to West Point, waterskiing over 50 miles to raise money for children with brain and
spinal cord tumors – “the toughest children’s cancer.” While
the survival rates of other pediatric cancers have improved in the last decade, these kids still face the lowest five-year
survival rate. What’s more, even survival comes with many challenges;
cognitive impairments, physical limitations and social isolation. And since there
are many kinds of brain tumors, research is so important.
Richie, who will be partnering in this cause,
says, “Holding on for the two hours it will take to make the trip is like a walk in the park compared to what kids with
brain tumors and their families have to deal with every hour of every day. Most
of us face hardships at one time or another in our lives, but for these kids, the hardships are there every day. Their hope is that a cure will come along to make their tomorrows easier.”
Now in its 20th year, the Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation serves
children and their families nationwide to improve the treatment, quality of life, and the long term outlook for children with
brain and spinal cord tumors through research, education, and advocacy to families and survivors. Please join in this effort to replace fear with hope for these children.
Together we can make a difference.
